It’s never too early to introduce children to the wonderful world of books. Stories tell them so much about the world we live in as well as developing so many essential skills.
Today, there’s so much entertainment that competes for our children’s attention: TV, computer games, mobile phones, laptops – the usual suspects! But according to psychotherapists, children need activities which get them to use their imaginations, as a vital part of their development.
Here are some of the many benefits and how you can find the right books for your children...
The Benefits of Reading
• Develops their use of language.
• Encourages good listening skills.
• Demonstrates how to interact with others.
• Stimulates their imaginations and creativity.
• Promotes a feeling of well-being and relaxation.
• Helps with emotional development. Children are sometimes happy, sad, excited, frightened or feel lost. They may understand these feelings through a story about a character that experiences any of these emotions.
• For older children, stories can provide a unique way for them to develop an understanding, respect and appreciation for others, and can promote a positive attitude to people from different countries, races and religions.
