St John's is a small Roman Catholic Primary School set in the heart of Bridgnorth Town in Shropshire. We are a Catholic Voluntary Aided Primary School within the Diocese of Shrewsbury and the Shropshire Education Authority. We accept Catholic and non Catholic children living in and around Bridgnorth.
At St John's we aim to provide an environment where learning is enjoyable and where children feel safe and happy. We believe that every child is a unique individual and we encourage them to explore and develop their learning skills, grow with confidence and enthusiasm, learn how to accept responsibility and, very importantly, strive to reach their full potential. As a faith school, the Catholic ethos of St John's is at the heart of all we do. This is demonstrated in our school liturgies, school council, play leader scheme and individual award programmes. With the school community, parents and parish we provide children with a safe and happy learning environment.
Our school is a single storey building, set at the end of a quiet cul de sac. We have seven classrooms, a PAX (peace) room, a Computer suite and Library, an administration area and hall, with County Council kitchen attached. It is situated within its own grounds, having a playing field, a trim trail, buddy benches and two playgrounds. Each classroom is equipped with class library and wet area. Interactive whiteboards and projectors are fitted into all classes. We have recently been working very hard to enhance our outdoor areas to maximise the opportunities for exciting learning and enjoyable play and we now have an outdoor garden for KS 1 children and our own Forest School where each year has their own raised planting bed and communal mudpit!
We provide a sound secular education within the framework of a strong religious tradition and background. We recognise the need for the development of the whole child - academically, spiritually, socially, morally, in artistic, creative and sporting achievements. This provides the basis for their future school and adult lives. The School prides itself on being a caring community, which promotes good attitudes in the children.
On the 1st July 2008 we were thrilled to hear from Ofsted that we had received an Outstanding rating from our inspection visit. The Ofsted inspectors reported that we provide an outstanding education for our pupils and that they make outstanding progress throughout the school. They described our teaching as "first rate" with an "exciting and stimulating curriculum". They recognised that our catholic ethos is a particular strength resulting in a high quality of care and support. Moreover they described our pupils as "very pleasant, friendly, impeccably behaved and very well prepared for the next stage in their education". Since then, in April 2011, Ofsted reported in their interim assessment of our school that we have sustained our outstanding status and that we will no longer be subject to an inspection unless they receive further information that raises concerns.
We always welcome parents to look round the school. Please contact us to make an appointment and we look forward to meeting you soon. In the meantime if you require any further information, please follow the links below:
